THE legend that is Valentino Garavani enjoyed a special week this week. Arriving in London with his closest friends and family, the revered fashion designer was in town to collect the American Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award, an accolade that honours “visionaries and pioneers whose ideas and talents have influenced the world”.
Previous recipients of the award include Barack Obama, Steven Spielberg, Muhamed Ali, Neil Armstrong and Aretha Franklin, but as of last night, Garavani is the only European fashion designer to join them. “I am very humbled and grateful to receive this amazing honour,” he said of the award given my the non-profir organisation which was established in 1961. “The past and present recipients are quite extraordinary and it is with great joy and respect that I accept this award, and that my work has been acknowledged amongst this esteemed group of leaders.” See all the pictures from his big night, shot by Darren Gerrish, below.
