Hitting the big 5-0 is a milestone for anyone and deserves to be celebrated with stylish aplomb. But what about when a brand turns 50? How best to celebrate half a century of iconic design and success? Italian jewellery house Pomellato knew exactly what to do – producing a stylish party for Milan’s fashion elite and a collection of rings, pendants and bracelets both modern and classic in design.
Milan was chosen as the natural location for a fittingly gold-bedecked party to bring Iconica to life, with guests including models Samile Bermannelli, Leila Nda and Sasha Kichigina, actress Nathalie Rapti Gomez, as well as fashion icons such as W magazine’s Stefano Tonchi among others.
Luxury jewellery is timeless, and Pomellato’s creations are evidence of that. The Italian house has been bringing us cocktail rings with stand-out stones, chunky chain-link earrings, bracelets and necklaces studded with delicate diamonds, and their signature cabochons for the past half century, and the fashion world has revelled in it. Now, for the significant milestone of 50 years in production, Pomellato introduces the aptly named Iconica collection.
Iconica is a tribute to Pomellato’s roots in the traditions of goldsmithing, and draws on the original gold band ring created by the Italian house in the 1970s, revived now with the exuberant expressionism of Pomellato’s playful pieces. The rings have really caught our attention – thick white gold and rose gold hoops of smooth, curved metal, studded with diamonds in some cases, and available in various widths to suit the wearer. Opt for a skinny gold band with whimsically placed diamonds in the shape of stars, teardrops, navettes and triangles; this is jewellery for adults with a naivety at its core.
The pendants follow the form of the rings with miniature takes on the designs strung together on delicate rose gold chains. Mix and match and layer at will for everyday polish. For a bolder moment, it’s the bracelets that state their case. Their design is unmistakably Pomellato, featuring the brand’s hallmark: impressive chains. These come in three sizes of rose gold links and, what’s even better, the clasp has been designed to allow more than one bracelet to seamlessly link together, forming a necklace of varying lengths. Clever Pomellato.
