REMEMBER back in August when Solange Knowles graced New York’s Radio City in a pink silk smoking suit? Of course you do. It took us less than 24 hours to become obsessed with the brand, Tigra Tigra.
Hot on her fluro heels is Joan Smalls, who graced last night’s NYC dinner honouring Karl Lagerfeld wearing bubblegum separates by AREA, a US design studio specialising in textiles. Founded by Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk, alumni of Calvin Klein and Chloé, respectively, in 2013, the duo’s sheeny, glamour-infused collections became fashion editorial fodder, and the brand got shortlisted for the 2016 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Programme. Bella Hadid wore a high-shine dress to a pre-Met Gala dinner, Kendall Jenner was spotted in a pair of gigantic diamanté earrings, and AREA’s path to success was sealed.
Last night, while fellow guests Bella and Gigi Hadid sported Chanel in homage the brand’s creative director, Smalls offset her cropped tuxedo jacket and high-waisted trousers with Tippex-white stilettos and a mask of Lagerfeld raised over her face for Instagram ops. Autumn’s corporate trend might be in full swing, but Smalls is having the last laugh.
